FAQ's Scanners

 Questions :

1. LS5xx: Windows NT can't find the unit, although it is connected to the SCSI bus and it
    is turned on?

2. ALL: I have an Ultra Wide SCSI card (like the 2940UW), and a HDD and the
scanner connected to the same bus simultaneously. The card, while scanning the bus
for devices, will find the HDD or the scanner, which ever is turned on, but not both
   at the same time?

3. LS5xx: I have several LS5xx's originally ordered without the Ink-jet option, which I
need now. Can this option be upgraded in the field?

4. LS200: How does the machine signal problem?

Please verify that the 'scsi scan' service is turned to 'disable'.

Click on 'My Computer', go to "Control Panel', open 'Devices' and scroll down the list until you find the 'scsi scan'.

If the service is 'started', turn it 'off', and with the 'start-up' option, select 'disable'. The reason for this service to be 'turned off' is because Windows will try to load a 'general' scanner driver to be used with the scanner, which will not work. This scanner is not a common scanner and requires it's own set of drivers, which are contained in the DLL.

Ultra wide SCSI utilizes a 68 cable (68 pin) connection, and in order to mix SCSI 2 (50 pin) and SCSI 3 (68 pin) on the same bus, the 'High Byte' of the ultra wide SCSI must be properly terminated (active termination). This termination is only accomplished by 'special' connector-devices, and not all cables that reduce 68 pin to 50 pin have it. Get a special conversion cable from the manufacturer (Adaptec if it its the case) and make sure that the connection is correct.

No. Our technical department can do the upgrade at our facilities for a nominal charge. The work is intensive since the unit has to be disassembled in order to insert the necessary parts.
